When publishing archive material and images, a reference to the origin (Staatsarchiv Solothurn) and the exact shelfmark must be included. The aim of the citation is to ensure that the archival material used can be retrieved at a later date.
The Solothurn State Archives should be cited with the abbreviation StASO (the ISIL number CH-000043-5 can also be used).
Special case Besenval family archive: The fonds were catalogued at the Musée des Suisses dans le monde (MSMA) before they were taken over by the State Archives. The MSMA used a shelfmark system that did not correspond to the guidelines of the State Archives and therefore had to be adapted. In order to ensure that the archive records can continue to be found using the old shelfmarks already widely used in research, the following citation system is now in use:
The archive designation and the reference to the inventory number MSMA 1 will be replaced by StASO N-090-01. The signature part after the slash (/) remains unchanged.
